circle of live is a brand new, live act only event series concept and record label curated by sebastian mullaert to honour the values of spontaneity and improvisation. for the inaugural release on the new circle of live imprint, sebastian mullaert presents a joint ep with long time collaborator eitan reiter. the duo previously met on the 2014 album reflections of nothingness, (mule musiq) borne out of a week long jam spent together at sebastians tranquil rostanga studio. following the albums release, they arranged two live shows at ozora festival in hungary.

the maghreban returns to r&s for a new single following his dark debut album 01deas, perhaps with an icier sound. monster vip is a reworking of a double time rap track from the maghrebans strange u side project he added breaks and rolled it out. end level bosses lurk. beware of the monster. rave navel-gazing back to his roots: his first ever release was a jungle 12inch in 1994. early support from ben ufo. on the flip, batu (timedance/xl) offers up crisp percussion and ominous sound design in his energetic 140 remix of album opener eddies. then the ep is closes out with carpet bombing, the title of which references the producer adding more and more notes to the main percussive motif as it builds and builds.

italian producer piero pirupas musical cv is nothing short of impressive. so its no surprise that his next production has found a home on damian lazarus crosstown rebels, enlisting the vocal talents of new yorks mr.v. influenced by the sounds of 80s and 90s chicago, pirupa worked tirelessly on this ep to reach a version he was happy with. after seeing the reaction from dancefloors around the world, he decided to send it to carl cox and damian lazarus. we must be (the piano track) breathes new life into todays dance music with a message from a bygone era. it harks back to the golden age of house music with its lush piano topline and positive message sung by mr.v. happiness simply emanates from this production. with lyrics such as we must be all in this together, we must live to respect one another and this is the plan to make us unified it takes clubbing back to a time when everyone came together on the dancefloor regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation or religion.

walter gibbons, a true master of the mix, a disco legend, a pioneer of dance music. theres literally very few who can lay claim to progressing the artform of studio mixing and technique than the late gibbons. his contribution to contemporary music cannot be understated, first as a dj where his drum laced experimentation captured the ears and minds of his peers and the dancers, then later as a mixer and studio genius where he continued on his quest. often fixated on the percussion and breaks within records his versions would often dive into spaced out, dubby and stripped back territory that very few of his peers were even contemplating at that time, fervently reconstructing the tracks themselves and often the time, space and dancefloor within which the record was being played. a true original, gibbons was behind many of the definitive versions of the classics, his unique style often catapulting records that were just fine in their original form into brand new colourful, cosmic interpretations that flourished sonically and rhythmically with brand new sounds that bristled with vision.

bondage music label-founders pornbugs return to the imprint this september with their pacho ep, backed with remixes from pablo bolivar and phillipp gonzales. leipzig/berlin based duo pornbugs make a welcome return to their own label here with two new original cuts, pacho opens the package with stripped-back drums, a bulbous bass line and choppy piano chords running alongside a bubbling arpeggio lead and tension building stab sequences. pablo bolivars rawmake of pacho follows, edging things into deeper territory with dropped tempo dusty drums, airy pads and an amalgamation of wandering, resonant synth lines. the second half of the release, pencilled for release as vinyl only features another original from pornbugs, entitled larica and featuring a similar aesthetic to the lead with fluttering dubby chords, a refined drum groove and unfolding atmospherics carrying the groove before label regular phillipp gonzales turns in his remix to complete the package, taking things in a more raw direction with heavily swung crunchy drums, pulsating filtered stabs and billowing vocal murmurs.

e-missions co-founder p.leone returns to radio slaves rekids this september with the my lita project backed with remixes from mark broom. originally hailing from new york, p.leone now resides in berlin where he helms his e-missions imprint with releases from himself and co-founder caiazzo, exciting new artists like rush plus and tred, not to mention remixes from young male, spencer parker and lawrence lee. leone has also dropped a variety of releases on rekids and work them records, when not making regular appearances at clubs like tresor. he now returns to radio slaves respected imprint with the my lita project, following up his highly lauded el dorado ep that garnered support from ben sims, jackmaster and spencer parker. my lita kicks things off with classic synths, piercing strings and choppy vocals slices whilst robust drums march forward. meanwhile, tight in the pocket is more dark and menacing in comparison with its syncopated percussion, echoing claps and ethereal atmospherics. on the flip, mark broom drops two different remixes of my lita the first is a robust cut complete with disco elements like funky guitar licks and soulful voice, with the originals stabs shining throughout, whilst the second remix takes a different route with its crunchy snares, moaning murmurs and fuzzy effects.

shaw cuts is happy to welcome a new face to the label squad: lazarus, a young producer from nuremberg, yields the perfect soundtrack for the magic blade with his debut record. the story begins with another clash between arch-rivals fu hung hsueh and yen-nan fei, two of the countrys most skilled swordsmen, both on a quest to number one. rhea sets the perfect tempo for the duel with its heavyweight drums, revolving percussion and energetic pads. clanking swords are interrupted by the arrival of shady company followers of the mysterious underworld swayer sent by master yu who wants yen-nan feis head. fu hung hsueh and yen-nan fei join forces, slaying the villains in seconds. reverof nema rolls in, its commanding rhythm and moody chords giving the swordsmen new force and vitality. yu wants to eliminate the swordsmen so that they never gain possession of the peacock-dart, an indestructible weapon with thanatophoric effects and the object of yus desires. but fu hung hsueh and yen-nan fei have already picked up the scent. bloody battles follow against more of yus entourage. the race against time is led by the energetic synth delirium and savage drums of casio flex, leading hsueh and fei safely to the sublime weapon. the duo journey on, defending the peacock-dart until they reach yus temple. the final showdown. overcome and its warped groove, warm synths and thundering drums bring master yu to his knees and the netherworld. but who was master yu? was it you? the myth lives on

the fourth release on anna walls label marks sunrom s debut. i am not inspired with the daylight he says. i prefer the night to the day. everything is peaceful and people are asleep. it gives me a feeling to be alone, especially when its really late. it is perhaps the peaceful surroundings of saint-german-en-laye in france, where romain nouhi aka sunrom resides that has encouraged his creative wandering. the city is a quiet place not far from paris, with a beautiful chateau and forest surroundings. the ep kicks off with spirale delightfully uplifting and playful, weaving colourful melodies intricately together. pray takes a more pensive and wistful turn. on the flip copenhagens paxton fettel has remixed superfly full of feel-good piano riffs. the final cut is dj normal 4s version of u doing, a dreamy breaks number that wouldnt sound out of place in the golden era of uk rave. i have a passion for stars and the cosmos, discovering new sounds is like discovering new stars- sunrom.

a year after his debut outing on the label, max essa makes a welcome return to hell yeah with the han zon roc ep, which is another of his impossibly laidback offerings. essa is of course the long time uk talent who has become a part of the balearic mafia thanks to releases on labels like aficionado, music for dreams, and his own jansen jardin. this is the second coming together of artist and label and is another timeless excursion far out to sea. opener han zon roc (midori coup) is an epic 12inch minute adventure that slowly awakens your spirit with new age guitar plucks and heavenly ambience before organic drums slowly being to drift into earshot. they grow ever larger as synths start to spray about the mix, hand drums pitter patter and big chords bring the soul-shine. its like the soundtrack to an afternoon boat party all condensed into one brilliant cut. how you showed me everything then gets super chill with lazy drum tumbles, bendy guitar lines and scattered hits. withering cosmic chords colour the airwaves and its a track that will slow your heartbeat to nothing. last of all, rain birds alfalfa jam is a analogue drum work out with early 90s hip hop influences and diving basslines. it s light and airy, nimble and playful and of course filled with the sort of tropical rays that make all of essa works so brilliantly escapist.

solar phenomena continues a high quality and high rate of releases after eps from the likes of stl and fluxion with a new one from mystica tribe - the musical alias of tokyo-based producer, taka noda. here he draws on everything from dub, soul, bass music, rhythm and blues and will always freak you out with his unusual sounds.
this excellently absorbing ep starts with love is all right, a fusion of asian percussion and reggae drums that is high tempo and funky. the bright steelpan sounds offset the razor sharp percussion and make for a sunny dub that will get any crowd going. the same fusion vibes continues but in more blissed out and slow motion fashion on lawn track, the beautiful cosmic psyche-out that is ash and supple space journey that is voyage with its intoxicating melodies and loose, tumbling percussion. this is unusual but essential music from an exclusive talent.
